Synopsis:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – AMPAS – has for several years been developing a new imaging framework for motion picture production and post-production/VFX/digital intermediate (DI). ACES involves an interesting and subtle combination of concepts from colour science, image coding, and visual psychophysics. The scheme has been released at version 1.0, and is expected to see widespread deployment. It has proven useful not only for digital cinema, but also for HD.

In this webinar, Charles Poynton will present the big picture of ACES, using just 12 viewgraphs (over which he will scrawl while presenting). The presentation has no fluff, and little political content; in fact, it may not be politically correct. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.

Who Should Attend: The Seminar will be suitable for people in positions such as these:

The attendee should be familiar with digital video, and HD. (Knowledge of digital cinema is not required.) Knowledge of mathematics isn’t required; nonetheless, many graphs and several equations will be shown!

Detailed handout notes will be provided. For information, contact Charles Poynton, charles@poynton.com, +1 416 535 7187. Registration: see top of page.

To encourage questions & discussion, there will be a maximum of 25 participants.
