Poynton’s Vector

2026‑02‑28

I am offering a subscription to new technical notes, issued monthly. There are two tiers:

I have many unpublished pieces of technical analysis and writing that I want to get out into the world! So I thought: Share them as kind of “beta” with my enthusiastic supporters to have discussion and get early reactions. Some of these pieces have recently been, or will be, presented at my seminars and workshops. I expect many of these pieces to show up in public at some time, for example, in a future book.

Here’s the background. A decade ago, I was contracted by SpectraCal, now Portrait Displays (as in Calman), to write a monthly 1000-word (2-page) note on a technical topic of my choosing. The series was called Poynton’s Vector; I produced 18 issues in total, issued approximately monthly during 2010 and 2011. They concerned topics of interest to those seeking faithful presentation of video and computer graphics, especially home theatre enthusiasts and calibrators. Spectracal distributed these freely. Most of them remain relevant and, I think, valuable. The collection of 18 issued notes is available:

I am renewing the idea, starting with issue 101 (for Tier 1) and 201 (for Tier 2).
